Stock & gravy

Low FODMAP stock is the base for soups, risotto and sauces, because regular vegetable stock usually contains onion and garlic. Massel stock is made without either and is certified by Monash University. It comes as a powder or cubes in vegetable, chicken style and beef style, all vegan. The gravy powder goes well with meat, mashed potato and rösti. To find out what else to look out for with stock, read our article on low FODMAP stock.

How much you need

Quantities according to the manufacturer, for stock and gravy without onion or garlic.

  • Stock powder

For vegetable stock, stir 1 heaped teaspoon into 1 litre of hot water. The powder also seasons risotto, polenta or roast potatoes.

  • Stock cubes

1 cube makes 250 ml of stock, so use 4 cubes for 1 litre. You can also crumble them straight over vegetables or meat in the pan.

  • Gravy

Mix 2 heaped tablespoons of powder with 20 ml of cold water until smooth. Top up to 250 ml with boiling water and stir until the gravy thickens.

Frequently asked questions

Is the chicken-style stock really vegan?

Yes. The “Chicken Style” and “Beef Style” varieties are entirely plant-based and contain neither chicken nor beef. They taste like a light chicken stock and a savoury beef stock.

How long does a pack last?

A 168 g tub of powder makes around 112 servings. With the cubes you get 3 packs of 7 cubes each, and one cube makes 250 ml of stock.
